Slide.Show 2 Contributors Needed

Apr 1, 2009 at 8:17 PM
Wanna help? If you would like to become a contributing developer for Slide.Show or Slide.Show 2, please reply to this post and I will add you to the project. We are looking for bug fixes and/or new features that will continue to make Slide.Show the best Silverlight photo and video viewer available on the Web.

Yep. We would've asked 5 months ago, but I guess we just expected people to be more proactive about offering to help. Or maybe they just think Slide.Show 2 is already perfect, but I doubt it. ;)

BTW, are you offering to help, olafb?

I think the one or other thing I'm able to do.

I'm working on integration of the Slide.Show.2 in MWPSK (MyWebPagesStarterKit - also on CodePlex). As of today, I have reached a version that seems to work pretty well on my localhost. (Still haven't managed to figure out why it is not showing anything when published on a shared host...)

Anyway, here are a few points that might be of interest to others:

  • A new MwpskDataProvider class
  • Fixed problem with XmlConfigurationProvider.ParseDouble(): It gets into trouble parsing the xml config file if the current culture set on the system has a different decimal point than "." (dot). - For instance, with Norwegian it is "," (comma).
  • Added some defaults in XmlConfigurationProvider.client_DownloadStringCompleted,  to make it more "forgiving" towards incomplete xml config files.

Just let me know if you want the code :-)

Hi Bendik,

Thanks for contributing! I’ve gone ahead and added you as a developer on the Slide.Show 2 project – would love to see you integrate your new provider and bug fixes into the source tree.

Okay, you're on!

I have now rewritten the whole integration from scratch, using the latest official release of MWPSK 1.2.2 and your Slideshow2-21708. Along with it, I wrote some pages of technical/programming notes and some code snippets, and included it in the Documentation folder (doc/pdf). So basically, I have a 39 MB ZIP with the whole project ready for you this very moment... I just don't know how to upload it yet!?

And I cannot see myself in the list of developers, allthough I seem to be logged in as Bendik E... plz tell me how to move on.

I checked again, and this time found myself in the developers list. So I have uploaded the whole zip as a patch (hope that's right). So you should now be able to find it here:

After extracting it all, my cookbook receipe for the integration can be found in the document "\MyWebPagesStarterKit_1.2.2_WSS2\slideshow2-21708\Samples\Documentation\Integration with MyWebPagesStarterKit.doc"

And I have already started working on version 2, where I plan to gather all albums on a MWPSK page in one instance of Slide.Show 2 and utilize the 'Album view' to browse. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks Bendik!

Count me in.  I wouldn't mind adding my recently posted fixes/enhancements to the code base.

Memory Leak fix:

Save button:

Starting on a specific album:

Slide description - close button behavior:

I would also like to incorporate additional enhancements I've made to my version based on posts by olafb, such as tooltips on navigation buttons and supporting starting in album mode based on an initparm configuration setting.

Hi sbeeler! It would be awesome if you could incorporate your changes and fixes into the main source tree. I went ahead and added you as a Developer on the project so you should be able to check in/out as needed. Thanks!
